ROMAN REPUBLIC, P. Aelius Q.n. Paetus, as Triumvir Monetalis (moneyer), Silver Denarius (3.56g, 19mm), Rome mint 138 BC. Obv. Head of Roma right, wearing winged Attic helmet, "X" (mark of value) to left. Rev. The Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, on horseback right, both armed with spear pointed forward and surmounted by star, "P· PAETVS" and "ROMA" in linear frame below. Crawford 233/1; Sydenham 455. Broad flan and deeply toned, some light encrustation reverse, good Very Fine.
