Rare topographical engravings showing the profile of various coastlines, hills and mountains as observed by British explorers. The result of careful observation of land elevation changes, these fascinating records provide an insight into British maritime endeavours of the 18th century. Includes 'Three Views of the Admiralty Isles' (2, one undated, the larger dated 1772); 'Sir Charles Saunders Island / Osnaburg Island / Boseawens Island / Admiral Keppel's Island / Wallis's Island' (2); 'Views on the Coast of Asia'; 'Views on the West Coast of America' (this with 10 illustrations showing Mount Edgecumbe, Kaye's Island, Nootka Sound, Table Hill and more). Some foxing, folds and yellowing, a few with edge tears. An appealing selection for collectors with an interest in the Royal Navy, maritime endeavours, American/Asia Pacific exploration, James Cook etc. Dimensions vary, most approx. 29 x 47cm (paper), one 23.5 x 39cm.
