Description
Oil on canvas, 39 x 49cm (image), 57 x 67.5cm (frame). Signed at lower right. Painting in excellent overall condition, some aging to frame. Provenance: Galloway Galleries, Bowen Hills (Queensland, Australia). Thence to a significant private collection. A delicate still life with skillful use of soft focus blending, tonal development and colour to achieve a vibrant luminosity. The composition has both a mediative tranquility and a sense of movement - featuring golden yellow roses, blue hydrangeas and violets, with a book lying open adjacent, its pages suspended upwards as if only just placed aside. Available for local pickup, otherwise courier to be arranged and paid for by bidder. Adequate advance notice of collection is required to ensure artwork is on site. Fees may apply for late collection. Born in Katoomba, N.S.W., Jill has been painting for over 40 years. Starting off as an accomplished flower arranger and having won several trophies and awards she turned her hand to capturing her floral art in oils on canvas. Jill’s love of roses reinforced her view that they were the only flower with the serene beauty and complexity to stand alone. Jill has found roses to be the most challenging and rewarding subject. Jill’s meeting in the early 1980s with the Belgian artist, Maurice Verelste, who painted florals in the style of the old masters, inspired her immensely. He encouraged her to find and develop her own unique aesthetic. Jill quickly rose to prominence amongst the ranks of accomplished artists and has held several solo exhibitions and exhibits Australia wide. Jill’s paintings are represented in collections throughout the world including the USA, UK, Singapore, South Africa and in many Australian galleries and homes. Her paintings have been included in the Connoisseurs Collection of Australian Art as well as the Jubilee Collectors Exhibition. She has also had work commissioned for local Government Chambers. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY.
