Oil on board, 43.5 x 59cm (image), 63 x 78.5cm (frame). Signed at lower right: 'K Wenzel.' This substantial original landscape painting is in excellent overall condition, pigment appears bright and free of craquelure. The frame has some marks from age but otherwise fine. Artist biography and gallery stamp on reverse.
A stunning composition depicting South Australia's largest mountain ranges. The artist has used an impasto technique to build up texture in areas of high contrast in the tree foliage, and captures the vastness of the scene with precision and adept use of perspective.
Provenance: Galloway Galleries, Bowen Hills (Queensland, Australia). Thence to a significant private collection.

Born in Brisbane in 1930, self-taught artist Kenneth Wenzel won the Sunday Mail Art Prize at just 15 years of age and has been the recipient of numerous accolades since. Wenzel has operated a professional studio practice since 1975. His love for the Australian landscape and coastline is evident as a prevailing theme in his work. Wenzel's paintings were exhibited frequently at Galloway Galleries & Fine Art Centre (Brisbane) and James Cook Gallery (Sydney) from the late 1970s onwards. His work is represented in numerous national and international private collections.
