Gold plated medal for 'MODERN SUBJECTS 1882' presented by 'REV J. CALLAGHER' and inscribed to 'Charles Harkin' 29mm diameter, 10.1g, made by E.J. Hollingdale & Son, Sydney, rich gold fields with toned periphery and decorative elements, in original lined reddish brown leather presentation case of issue.
Side note: Attributed to Dr. Charles. F. Harkin (1866-1950), one of the best known and most respected residents of the Chiltern District, Victoria. He was born in Bright, but came to Wodonga when quite a boy. He attended the Wodonga S.S., later the Christian Brothers in Albury, and still later, St. Patrick's College, Goulburn. Subsequently he went to Trinity College, Dublin, where he qualified. On his return to Australia he set up practice in Chiltern, where he spent the whole of his professional career. At various times he has held most positions in Chiltern.
