Oil on board, 29.5 x 19.5cm (image), 42 x 32cm (frame). Signed 'W. R. Lyons' lower right. An intriguing and expertly-rendered painting of an Indigenous Australian stockman. Available for local pickup, otherwise courier to be arranged and paid for by bidder. Adequate advance notice of collection is required to ensure artwork is on site. Fees may apply for late collection. Born in Sydney in 1930, Mike Lyons was an established artist working predominately in oils and acrylics, and also a noted printmaker and educator. He studied at the East Sydney Technical College in the 1950s and later in France, Spain, Italy and the UK in 1969-70. Lyons completed further studies at the Eastern New Mexico University in 1970s and was later appointed an instructor there. He also taught at the Royal Queensland Art Society. Lyons first exhibited in Brisbane in 1967 and since then has exhibited extensively throughout Australia in all state capitals, also holding successful exhibitions internationally in Paris, Italy, Switzerland and the USA. He has been awarded a number of accolades throughout Queensland, New South Wales and in the USA.
