Great Black Cockatoo and Lyrebird, prints for Histoire Naturale Generale et Particuliere, published in Paris, circa 1840, 28.5 x 35.5cm (frames). Original hand-coloured copperplate engravings from a series engraved by Pauquet, Madame Thorel, Massard, Oudet, LeBrun, LeGrand and Guyard after the drawings by Meunier, Jean-Gabriel Pretre, Edouard Travies and Chazal, published by Pourrat Brothers for "Suites a Buffon" by Zoology Professor, Paris Natural History Museum, Bernard Germain Etienne de la Ville sur Illon, Comte de Lacepede (1756-1825), updating the most comprehensive 18th century French ornithological colourplate series, "Histoire Naturelle Generale et Particuliere avec la description du cabinet du roi" (Natural History, General and Particular), originally published between 1765-1780 by Georg-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788). Some minor foxing spots, both on toned paper, professionally framed in excellent condition. Available for local pickup, alternatively, courier to be arranged and paid for by bidder.
