Description
Exquisite black and white portrait of the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II (by acclaimed portrait photographer Dorothy Wilding) beautifully signed to the centre of the mount in fountain pen 'Elizabeth R' in somewhat faded mid-brown ink, with the year of her coronation 1953. The 295 x 225mm portrait is affixed to it's original studio mount with a 'Dorothy Wilding Portraits Limited' stamp on reverse and numbered '015957/J'. Image and signature in very fine condition and worthy of reframing, very minor creases across nose & at top right/lower centre under bright light and slight buckling to mount at top left.
Side note; this image of the newly ascended Elizabeth II was part of the portrait series that were used to illustrate United Kingdom & Commonwealth postage stamps in use between 1953-1971. A beautiful portrait of the young Queen at the dawn of her reign. International examples within important collections appear to verify provenance.
