Description
Personalised 1986 second edition, signed by Dunlop in two letters 'towards the memory of Staff Sergeant QX917 Alan 'Gibby' Gibson (1915-1960)', to Margaret Wilson (sister), the front pages with attached letters from Weary Dunlop 1987, both on headed paper, the second recalling an incident where Dunlop was 'cajoled into taking two pistols to go to the rescue of two Dutch nurses who were about to be raped by Japanese soldiers in Bandoeng Prison; the only voice offering to go with me was 'Gibby', I think my reply was 'one bloody fool around here is enough Gibby!' With dustcovers, full of photographs of secreted sketches of emaciated POWs, etc. A chilling read, showing the heroism and humanity of Dunlop in extreme circumstances.
