Description
Ceremonial hand-woven textile, bead and cowrie shell 'hinggi' or zoomorphic cloth, 19.5cm x 30cm. The 'hinggi' textiles are used both for clothing, and a traditional ceremonial exchange in marriages. The textiles are symbolic and represent dowry from the woman's family, who are ritually superior to the husband's at the wedding.
